Ensigma DAB IP Enables the First £99 DAB Digital Radio


Chepstow, UK, 1st July 2002: Ensigma Technologies a division of Imagination Technologies (LSE:IMG) today announced that its digital radio IP is being used in the PURE EVOKE-1 DAB digital radio from VideoLogic Systems. The EVOKE-1 is the first £99 DAB radio.

The PURE EVOKE-1 is built around Frontier Silicon’s Chorus™ FS1010, a single-chip DAB/Audio processor based on the META™ multi-threaded DSP core and DAB technologies developed by Imagination Technologies’ Metagence and Ensigma Technologies divisions.
META super-threading technology enables VideoLogic to create a lower cost DAB radio that also increases on the features available in previous generation DAB products.

Ensigma Technologies is a leading technology provider for DAB with proven implementations and patents. Ensigma has developed a suite of software and hardware for customers implementing digital radio receivers. All modes of audio and data services are supported. The latest Ensigma digital radio technology, consisting of software stack and custom coprocessors, was used with the META super-threaded DSP core to develop the Chorus FS1010.

Ensigma’s digital radio IP is available as a complete IP package based on the META processor, including software and coprocessors. The software can be tailored for low cost radios and innovative data/audio applications, and is fully compatible with Ensigma’s consumer audio IP.

META provides multiple real-time programming contexts (threads) that can operate independently and concurrently making it possible to run several real-time tasks on a single processor, rather than resorting to inefficient multi-DSP solutions. For example, META can implement all DAB baseband and user interface functions on one device.
