LONDON, UK – 22 June, 2015 – Imagination Technologies (IMG.L) announces availability of a Russian translation of a popular textbook about MIPS CPUs as part of its Imagination University Programme (IUP). The book, ‘Digital Design and Computer Architecture,’ can be downloaded for free from the IUP website.
‘Digital Design and Computer Architecture,’ co-written by professors Dr. David Harris and Dr. Sarah Harris, is now in its second edition. The book takes a unique and modern approach to digital design, beginning with digital logic gates and progressing to the design of combinational and sequential circuits, and leading to the design of an actual MIPS processor. By the end of the book, readers will be able to build their own microprocessor and have a top-to-bottom understanding of how it works.
Professors Harris and Harris also developed the MIPS CPU and teaching materials at the heart of Imagination’s recently announced MIPSfpga initiative, to which this textbook is a complement. Through MIPSfpga, Imagination is transforming CPU architecture education in universities around the globe by offering them free and open access to a fully-validated, current generation MIPS CPU in a complete teaching package.
Robert Owen, manager, Worldwide University Programme, Imagination says: “We’re pleased to make this highly-acclaimed textbook available to an even wider audience by introducing it to the vibrant Russian microelectronics community. With its elegant true RISC design, MIPS has been the teaching architecture of choice for decades. Through our new university programmes, we are making MIPS even more accessible to academic institutions around the globe, providing an incredibly rich set of tools for CPU architecture education, and ensuring that MIPS will be a major part of university courses going forward.”
Within the first 24 hours of being posted on the IUP website, the Russian translation of ‘Digital Design and Computer Architecture’ had already been downloaded by more than 1,600 people.
The book translation was performed by an international team of professors, engineers and students from leading universities and companies in Russia, Ukraine, the United States and the UK. Preparation of the formatted book was accomplished with the help of the RUSNANO Fund for Infrastructure and Educational Programs.
Students and teachers should visit the Imagination University Programme website to register and download the book, which is free of charge to members of academia:
